Shipping International:

Section 3

If you are shipping internationally, you will need to fill out the custom information even if your package has no value and is just documents. In this case, here are some helpful tips:

If no value:

- You can leave the Declared Value as $0

Package Contents:

- Documents

Document Decription:

- Correspondence/ No Customs Value

Shipping Purpose:

- Commercial

Section 5: Customs Documentation

Choose - Commercial Invoice, Use company letterhead on file, Use company signature

Terms of sale: Free Carrier

When you click submit - you will want to print out the invoices along with the bill of laden and shipping label.  There will be three invoices printed out.  Sign and date each one.  Then make 2 more copies of the shipping label.  Put in the clear envelope all 3 signed invoices, all three shipping labels (with one facing outward so the driver can scan it).

If you get this alert in the Customs Documentation Section: (Countries affected by this: South Africa)

Alert:
Invoices created through this system are not accepted for the origin or destination country. Please provide your own Commercial/Pro Forma Invoice for this shipment.

Then you have to find your own commercial invoice from the internet (do not use a FedEx template) and complete it and put three copies in the shipping envelope. FedEx Ship Manager invoices are not acceptable. Invoices must be on company letterhead and be on the outside of the shipment.   Here is one that I created.

Regardless of whether you choose Commercial, gift or Personal Use - you must do the commercial invoice or pro Forma. If you choose personal use - you will get more rates and transit options because it will not be held in customs but you may want to call FedEx to check, depending on the package I sometimes get conflicting messages.
