As part of the ongoing modernization of MIT's telephone infrastructure, Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) is migrating from multiple legacy systems to a modern, unified, cloud-based service. This process will be completed on a rolling timetable.

Which System is My Account On?

  1. To determine if your account is on Sylantro or BroadSoft go to voip.mit.edu.
  2. Locate the Account Card or Account Details screen for your account.
  3. Look for a URL which begins with either sylantro or broadsoft. See screenshots below.

    If you have three or fewer accounts they will appear as individual cards. | |
    Account Details
    If you have more than three accounts they will appear in a list.
    For each account click the ellipsis to the right and select Account Details.
    Look for the URL at the top of the Account Details page.

What Do I Need to Know About the New BroadSoft System?

  1. You will need to create a Passcode (PIN) to use the phone's Voice Portal menu system.
  2. If your voicemail is stored on the server and accessed through your phone (rather than email) you will also need to set up your voice mailbox by recording your name. Instructions are provided in the KB article MITvoip BroadSoft Cloud Landing Page.
  3. After your transition you can manage your account at voip.mit.edu and your phone and voicemail features at broadsoft.mit.edu.

Access Voicemail Messages on the Sylantro Legacy System

You can listen to messages on the legacy system for 90 days after the transition. If you wish to save some or all of your legacy messages by downloading them, you must complete within 90 days of the transition. See instructions below.
  • Messages stored on the legacy voicemail system will not be transferred to the new system.
  • Messages stored on the legacy voicemail system will be available on the legacy system for 90 days only from the time of your transition to the new system.
  • You can download important messages individually from the legacy system. Instructions are provided below.
  • Or, you may wish to transcribe your messages or play them to record them on an external device.
  • Dial x3-0000, or 617-253-0000 to listen to your old voicemail.

Download a Voice Message from the Legacy System After Your Transition

  1. Go to https://voip.mit.edu
  2. On the Account Details page, follow the link to the legacy Sylantro voicemail system.
  3. Follow the instructions for saving messages prior to migration below starting at step #2.

Download a Voice Message from the Legacy System Before Your Transition

  1. Go to the Sylantro portal at https://sylantro.mit.edu.

  2. At the MITvoip Account page select your account and click Logon.



  3. At the MITvoip Web Interface click Voice Mail Inbox then authenticate using Touchstone.



    At the Sylantro message screen:
  4. Select a message
  5. Right-click message.wav
  6. Click Save link as...


    On Windows systems you may ignore, or close the messages about Quicktime.


  7. Save in desired location with appropriate name e.g., voicemail-ben-project-x-10-12-2013.wav
  8. Double-click the .wav file to play it using your default system music player.
    If you have trouble completing these steps using Firefox, or if your default browser fails to open the Sylantro Voicemail Inbox you can try connecting with a different browser. If this doesn't correct the issue, please contact the IS&T Service Desk at servicedesk@mit.edu, or call 617-253-1101.
