Issues:

I keep getting this message in the morning: " system running out of application memory error".  I leave my computer on all of the time; I also have a lot of tabs open at any given time, but then why does it not run out of memory during the day when I am working, why does not run out of memory at night when there is no activity?

Answer: (from IST) After researching your computer memory issues, we've found that a combination of open Chrome tabs and backup and scanning processes during idle time are likely the cause.

This combination of factors explains why the error typically only appears while you're away from your computer. When your Mac is actively being used, the system suspends backup and scan processes so you can work - which is why you're not seeing issues when you're at your computer. But when your computer is idle, on top of the processes currently open, your computer will attempt to run virus scans, file indexing, and file backups - all of which will take additional resources. These resources, on top of your open processes, are enough on your machine to cause memory issues.

To get around this, we have a few suggestions. First, and importantly - restart your computer every few days, at least once a week. This will allow your computer time to install updates, clear improper memory use build-up, and generally reduce the chances of errors occurring.

Next, we suggest closing any active processes - including Chrome tabs - when you're finished working with them. If you find yourself frequently needing to re-open the same tabs, we suggest converting them to Bookmarks, so they're still easily accessible but not using your computer's active memory by staying open. This also applies to any other programs you have open - fully closing a program when not in use will keep it from reserving computer memory, which will prevent memory errors.

Lastly, if you find yourself needing to quickly re-open things you had open the previous day, Chrome has a quick feature to help with this. In a new Chrome session, if you click the three dot menu at the top right, and select History, you can see a list of tabs you recently had open, and can click on them to restore their states. This will allow you to close your tabs but keep a record of them so you can reopen them when needed.
